Chicago Rowing Union (CRU) is seeking a coach for their Competitive program for the 2012 season. This program has a wide range of experience and ages, but all rowers within this program have completed at least one season of rowing and are dedicated to a more competitive rowing program. Previous experience coaching rowers is required. The ideal candidate will be motivational, dedicated, responsible, organized, and supportive of the GLBT community.
Responsibilities include:
- coaching Competitive rowers through both sprint season and head season
- managing and instructing rowers with varying levels of experience
- working with the rowers to identify and reach goals for the 2012 season
- working with other CRU coaches to maintain a consistent training plan throughout CRU
- assisting with equipment maintenance
CRU's Competitive program meets three times per week: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5:00AM – 7:00AM. CRU's Competitive rowers will start the week of April 15th and end the week of October 28th. All practices are located at the Dammrich Rowing Center in Skokie, IL. A stipend is provided at a competitive rate, but this is not a full-time position.

Founded in 2005 as Qrew Chicago, Chicago Rowing Union is a team of dedicated men and women in three different programs: Novice, Club, and Competitive. CRU's membership is a mix of experience, from people new to rowing to those with several years of experience, both with CRU and from elsewhere. Located in Skokie, Illinois, CRU shares the Dammrich Rowing Center with several high school and collegiate teams. This program includes rowers who have completed CRU’s Learn-to-Row program in the 2011 season and will incorporate those completing the program in 2012. Previous experience coaching rowers is required. The ideal candidate will be patient, energetic, have a positive-demeanor, dedicated, responsible, organized, and supportive of the GLBT community.
Responsibilities include:
- coaching Novice rowers through both sprint season and head season
- managing and instructing rowers who have minimal experience
- motivating and encouraging members throughout the season while maintaining a positive attitude
- working with the rowers to identify and reach goals for the 2012 season
- working with other CRU coaches to maintain a consistent training plan throughout CRU
- assisting with equipment maintenance
CRU's Novice program meets twice per week: Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00PM – 9:00PM. CRU's Novice rowers will start the week of April 15th and end the week of October 28th.
