We are excited to announce that our Spring 2026 Learn to Row program is now open for registration. We are running the classes in May this year, in hopes of warmer spring weather. Successful graduation of Learn to Row is required before joining our Novice program, which will begin in June and run through the summer break in August.
Chicago Rowing Union (CRU) has been offering Learn To Row classes since 2006. CRU continues to support the Skokie Park District adult referrals, and any 18+ person wishing to Learn to Row in a safe and welcoming atmosphere.
LEARN TO ROW REGISTRATION AND SCHEDULE
Note: the Learn to Row Fee is is non-refundable if your spot is not filled - signing up is a commitment to fill a seat in the boat) All sessions are required in consecutive order and are required to graduate.

What you will Learn:
You will receive 8 focused hours on the essential basics of rowing, led by coaches with years of experience on the water. You will learn proper rowing form, how to carry a boat to the water, how to set your oar and seat properly, and how to work as a team. We will also have helpful CRU volunteers lending a hand to ensure you have a safe and fun time in the boats. Graduating members can move into Novice program after completing course requirements.
When you register, you will be creating an account with us in our iCrew system. Please provide your age, weight and emergency contact information in your iCrew profile. You will receive informational emails prior to class, so be sure to provide an email address that you check regularly. You will sign a safety waiver when you arrive at the boathouse.. We also recommend that you view USRowing’s safety video prior to class.
Note: some lifting required, please be physically able to lift 40 pounds, climb stairs, and perform strenuous exercise on a rowing machine. Before your time on the water in our boats, we require an acknowledgement of your ability to swim.

WINTER INDOOR TRAINING WITH CRU
Get Fit with WIT (Winter Indoor Training) During the winter months, we work as a team to complete our (coach specified) workouts, enjoying the camaraderie that comes from working hard to get fit and strong.
